Draft for review
This has not been reviewed by a solicitor. The liability, subscription and medical-disclaimer sections in particular need checking before launch.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms are between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [COMPANY NUMBER], of [ADDRESS]. By creating an account or using Soft Focus you agree to them. If you don't, please don't use the app.
You must be 18 or over.
2. What Soft Focus is not
Soft Focus is a self-help tool, not healthcare. It is not a medical device. It cannot diagnose ADHD or anything else. It is not therapy, not counselling, and not a substitute for a doctor, a therapist or any other professional.
Nothing in the app — including anything the guide says — is medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. The content is general information, and no two relationships are the same.
If you think you or your partner may have ADHD, speak to your GP. If your relationship is in serious difficulty, an ADHD-informed couples therapist will do more than any app.
The guide is powered by AI. It can be confidently wrong. Please treat it as a starting point for your own thinking rather than an authority.
3. In an emergency
Soft Focus is not monitored. Nobody reads what you write, and nothing you enter will summon help.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999. If you are struggling and need to talk, Samaritans are free at any hour on 116 123. If you are experiencing domestic abuse, the National Domestic Abuse Helpline is 0808 2000 247.
4. Your account
- Keep your email access and your pairing code to yourself. Anyone with your pairing code can link to your account.
- One account per person. Don't share a login with your partner — the app is designed around two separate accounts.
- Tell us promptly if you think someone has got into your account.
- You're responsible for what happens through your account.
5. Using it with a partner
Linking accounts shares specific things between you, as described in the privacy policy. Before you link, please understand:
- Anything you deliberately send to your partner, they keep. You cannot un-send it.
- Either of you can unlink at any time.
- A subscription bought by one partner unlocks premium for both, for as long as it's active.
- If you separate, unlink. We can't adjudicate between two people about shared content.
6. How it must not be used
This matters more than the rest of this page
Soft Focus must never be used to monitor, pressure, control or coerce another person. It is built to help two people understand each other, and it is deliberately designed so that neither partner can see whether the other has completed anything.
You must not:
- Use the app to track, check up on, or exert control over your partner
- Create an account for someone else, or link to someone without their genuine agreement
- Use it to threaten, harass, abuse or demean anyone
- Present anything the app produces as a professional or clinical opinion
- Try to break, reverse-engineer, scrape or overload the service
- Use it for anything unlawful
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
7. Free, premium and payment
The free version
The free tier is permanent, not a trial. It has no time limit and needs no card.
Premium
Premium costs £14.99 a month or £99.99 a year, covering both partners. New accounts get 30 days of premium free. At the end of that, unless you subscribe, the account moves to the free tier — it does not lock, and nothing you have written is deleted or held back from you.
Payment and cancelling
- Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google, not by us. We never see your card details.
- Cancel any time in your device's subscription settings. Cancelling stops the next payment; you keep premium until the period you've paid for ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.
- We may change prices, but we'll tell you before it affects you, and any change applies from your next renewal.
Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by anything here.
8. What you write
What you write in Soft Focus is yours. We don't claim ownership of it and we don't sell it.
You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you — storing it, showing it back to you, and passing the parts you choose to your linked partner.
The app itself, its content and its design belong to us. Please don't copy or redistribute them.
9. Availability and changes
We'll try to keep Soft Focus working, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove something you rely on, or shut the service down entirely, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to export what you've written.
Reminders and nudges depend on your device and its settings. Please don't rely on the app alone for anything genuinely important.
10. Our responsibility to you
We don't limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows: we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for decisions you make based on the app, or for anything that happens between you and your partner. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
[THIS SECTION IN PARTICULAR NEEDS LEGAL REVIEW.]
11. Ending it
You can stop using Soft Focus at any time and delete your account from the app. We may end your access if you break these terms, or if we stop running the service.
12. Law, and how to complain
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK you keep the protection of your local consumer law.
If something has gone wrong, email hello@softfocusadhd.com and tell us. We'd rather fix it than argue about it.
